Collaborations:

Angiotech will commercialize therapeutic device products through strategic partnerships with medical device companies.

Medical Devices: Angiotech will seek partners with medical devices suitable for modification using its drug-eluting technologies. The partners will collaborate to develop and bring the therapeutic devices to market.

Biomaterials: Angiotech plans to drug load biomaterials to create innovative therapies which can then be strategically partnered.

Drug-Eluting Stents (Coronary and Peripheral):

Angiotech has a proven track record as a partner in the development of therapeutic devices and in its ability to create innovative new technologies and open up unique, high value market opportunities.

In-Licensing:

Angiotech is constantly looking to expand its portfolio of therapeutic devices and is constantly analyzing opportunities to in-license drugs and technologies to facilitate this:

Drugs:

Angiotech is focused on developing a variety of therapeutic devices that aim to benefit patients in a wide range of therapeutic areas. We are interested in licensing anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory drugs and other disease-modifying agents. Drugs that fulfill our needs are small molecules that have at least reached Phase 2 clinical development.

Drug Review Process:

Angiotech's evaluation of in-licensing candidates involves a review of the Investigators Brochure with a focus on mechanism of action, toxicology and safety data. This is followed by a preliminary investigation of the drug by our in vitro screening team and a feasibility study in a relevant animal model. Once validated in this way, Angiotech will seek a license for the relevant therapeutic device application.

Drug Delivery Technologies:

An important component for a drug-eluting therapeutic device is that the drug must often be contained within a biocompatible material with appropriate characteristics. Different applications have different requirements, but in general terms, Angiotech is interested in biocompatible materials - polymeric or non-polymeric - having different degradation profiles such that the release profiles can be adjusted according to our needs. Angiotech is also interested in delivery technologies that can target drugs to specific locations.

Biomaterials Review Process:

Angiotech's evaluation of biomaterials involves a confidential review of technology followed by an internal study to assess the feasibility of using the material in the application of interest. Once the technology that best suits our technology is identified, Angiotech will seek to license it.
